What is JavaScript, how is it used on this website and how can I enable it in my browser?

JavaScript is a scripting language which allows dynamic content to be displayed and updated within web pages. It is client-side, rather than server-based, which means that the script operations are performed within your web browser, following your input.

This website currently uses JavaScript to display maps (provided by Google Maps), allowing you to see precise photo and article locations. JavaScript is also used to display adverts (provided by Google AdSense and Amazon), as well as offer basic search functionality.
